Shocking dinner in Vietnam - Part 2

SPECIALTIES - COBRA (continued, p.2) But still my most experiments were successful, and did not require a daily handful of pills or two or three days of bed rest. But once hosted a dinner that I will never forget, and probably will never be repeated. This was my last night in Hanoi. I met two Vietnamese guys early twenties near the bar in my hotel. They called Honda and Hung, both attended the local university. They said they were going to go out of town, the village of Lat, to try snake, and invited me along. I agreed, and offered to pay for petrol, if they told me there would be taken on their mopeds. After about half an hour we moved into a quiet alley and stopped beside a small, dilapidated building. My driver, Hung, smiled and pointed to a faded wooden sign on which was portrayed by a big black snake, has prepared to jump. We went inside, and there we were greeted by an elderly Vietnamese. He had dark skin and his face was indented with deep, noble wrinkles. He would be dressed in something that is very reminiscent of medieval nightgown, the entire length of which was built by a number of large white buttons. He seated us at a small oak table in the hallway, and gave us green tea, and he just quietly walked to the side, watching us as we drink tea. When tea was over, the old man gathered the cups and the sign showed us to follow him. He slowly led us through the squalid room, all the decorations which were bare mattress and a pile of rags on the floor. It looks like it was his living room. There, in the middle of the room stood a huge cage of wire sizes more like a garden shed. Inside the cell, the floor was dug a muddy pond oval. Along the edges of the pond was paved with small stones and already begin to rot the logs. In one corner of the cells grew slender tree with spreading branches. Heaps of leaves and mud covered the rest of the floor, except for a rusty bicycle child standing at a distance.
