SPECIALTIES - COBRA Eben Shtruss this morning at breakfast I found myself under a desk monkey. I do not know exactly, is it ok, so I tried not to pay attention to it, and continue to think about the movie "Blow." I tried to dig out my camera in the bag when the owner of the cafe ran up, grabbed her neck, screaming and kicking the primacy and dragged the animal into the restaurant. I never knew whether the monkey was his pets, whether branded dish for dinner. Already passed some eighteen months since I left the cozy apartment in San Francisco to take a trip on the north-east Asia. I traveled to Thailand, Cambodia, Laos and Vietnam, and several days later had to reach Malaysia and Singapore. From the very start of the journey my rule was to avoid any rules, but one habit I've always tried to stick to - explored the exotic cuisine. I was not exactly gourmet, but my culinary talents are limited to the simplest dishes (although I'm first-class cook the tuna). But, as I wanted to immerse themselves in the culture of those countries for which traveled experiments with food were I really need. Besides I just like to try different dishes, and in Southeast Asia to their fullest. And, because the roast monkey was not in my plans, my research over the fact that I poured the scrambled eggs with ketchup. It is important to note that the study of exotic foods can be dangerous business. I discovered this the hard way in Vietnam, in Saigon. I had dinner with some very experienced travelers from Australia, when my temperature suddenly shot up incredibly quickly, as cramped stomach spasm. Australians have told me that, judging by my symptoms, I ate a dog. This is a fairly common dish in Vietnam. (I hope none of you are working with Greenpeace.) I know just what was trembling when he returned to his room, while outside was 35 degrees heat. Defined, there is nothing good to get sick, being in a developing country so far from home. I flashed on such an eerie feeling of helplessness, which is just beyond words. I lay there, motionless and miserable in his squalid room, and watching Asian television programs. I had a fever, throbbing head and stomach like a knife. I somehow regained consciousness three days later, but I needed a week while I was no longer sick of any liquids or food.
