MYTHS AND REALITIES OF LA ANTIGUA (continued, p.2) unexpectedly comes wrapped in a mystery night. As we move forward, inside there is a chill, because the landscape outside the window completely ceased to resemble the likeness of his day. Suddenly there are a huge forest, dressed in costumes of mysterious colors. Home, along the way, do not look friendly. Faint light flickering from time to time in them, creates fear and insecurity. A winding road becomes similar to an insidious snake, do not forgive the slightest of errors. Here there is no soul, life here has stopped. My decision to go through the night the way it seems hasty. I sit in a taxi. Suddenly, the driver presses on the throttle and the car darts off. "What happened?" - I ask. Even before his answer, I noticed that he was very nervous. The driver lights a match and brings it to a cigarette and begins his story, without sacrificing speed. "On this road you can not joke, do not really know?" - And he continues, not waiting for my answer. - "It often appears here. Fear binds us when we see her transparent figure, wandering somewhere in the middle of the road. Her ghost is eternal, and the groan of its worst of what could ever hear in life. " At this point, I realized that everything I know about her is true ... La Lorona, Weeping Woman - is a legend, passed from mouth to mouth the people of Guatemala for more than five centuries. According to one version, the Creole La Lorona was married to a wealthy Spaniard. During one of his trips, she falls in love with a poor mestizo and learns of her pregnancy. Distraught mother drowned child (maybe even one) in the river to hide this perverse relationship, and when she realizes she made, she began to cry, holding out his hands to his recessed child, but all in vain - the child did not return. The next day, the traveler finds her lifeless on the shore of the river and reported the news of the death of women villagers. Ibid her and buried, but at night the sounds of crying could be heard on the river, and La Lorona groaning: "Where is my child?" The whole village had seen a ghostly figure who was looking for her child. Ghost was wearing the same dress in which she was dressed in funeral day. For her heart-rending groan people nicknamed her La Lorona, which translated from Spanish means "the crying woman." To this day it appears in the mountains or near water: the water wells and tanks for washing, lakes, but most often on river banks. Most clearly heard her crying on moonlit nights. Entire villages and towns have seen her ghost, so parents forbid their children to appear on the streets after sundown. Sometimes it is the men that is considered a sign of bad news and upcoming challenges. They say that the farther it is, the closer it a ghost, and vice versa. The taxi driver, struggling with sharp turns, shows me the places where the most commonly seen La Loronu. Usually she is dressed in long white robes, and so it is easy to see during her endless searches. I do not ghost appeared to me! After some time I heard from the driver's story of meeting her. This story can not leave anyone indifferent. "I was returning home. It was late at night, later than usual ... I usually went to a bar in La Antigua, where he drank beer. That evening we talked with friends and did not notice how time flew. Seems to have been about 11 pm when I left the bar. Walking down a dark street (at their usual route), I saw suddenly at a crossroads something blocked my path and I stopped. " The man sighed and continued: "My whole life flashed in the minds of a few moments. I realized that I blocked the road La Lorona. Trying to move on, I began to swear, beat her hands and feet until someone gave me a whip. So I dealt with it. " My companion, agitated, and could hardly have time to drive a car, continued to share with me this terrible episode in his life. He returned home and told his wife about what happened to him. Wife asked him to be more attentive. Perhaps La Lorona can return, wanting revenge for his beating of a whip. And its location could be much more severe if not fatal. Unfortunately, his wife was right. A week later he went to the same bar, but in the morning he was found on the banks of the river, unconscious. His face and body were scratched her sharp long nails. People thought it was great luck, because La Lorona save his life. And this is not the only story of this kind, with friends driver too similar things happened. La Lorona never rests, almost every night, she is somebody. I have goosebumps from such stories. Where do I come? Why?
