AMAZING TRADITION Islanders Pentecost (continued, part 3) I'm lucky that I lived in Vanuatu as a tourist but as a volunteer, that is, a person who is on the island of the same lifestyle as the locals . My girlfriend, also a volunteer, lives in the village. This fact has allowed us - volunteers, with no tourists - to be present during this ceremony, hops on the ropes. We were there along with men village. It was just amazing to watch the ceremony, which was not spoiled by intrusive advertising cartons of various brands of beer. At the ceremony brought together several dozen Peace Corps volunteers from several islands. I get on the ship, along with two girls, my neighbor on the island. Someone sailed from the island of Ambrym, someone from the island of Malekula. We have five of them swam on the same ship on which we with my girlfriend Hillary sailed to the island in December for three days to watch the ceremony. Someone sailed from the southern islands, while others arrived by plane. Travel jump and this time it became a real challenge. On the ship was full of cows, pigs, chickens, kava (a plant used to produce a calming drink, approx. Perevi.), Which smelled worse, men, women, children everywhere stockpiled tons of some boxes. We have arranged a "camp" on the roof. I was the only one who gets on a cargo ship to the right of the island, so I've been with them various useful things: a tarp, which could wrap yourself and wrap up our things, towels, clean rags and raincoats. "Prayer" I do not know, how could all five girls to forget their raincoats, even though they were going from the beginning to get on the ship to Vanuatu ... In truth, they have only recently arrived on the island, so that particularly blame them it was not for that . At this time I decided to go ahead and captured the waterproof pants ... it was cool, just brilliant. I slept in the rain for two whole nights and stayed completely dry. Beauty! We slept on a piece of canvas, clinging to each other, as figures from Tetris - 6 girls in an ideal position for an infant. Our trip took us 3 days and 2 nights before we arrived to the southern coast of Pentecost. End of the semester we had landed in the village of Point Cross, home to Lauren, a girl from my group. Here a very beautiful place that looks like a village from Lord of the Rings "JRR Tolkien. The village is located on several tens of low hills between which rostut coconut groves. People live above the water, on large stones, which once fell from the shore into the ocean. Villagers were among the most good-natured people I ever met. We had a great time. There has been a place called Big Point. To get there, we had to peel off down the cliff to the stone promontory. There we found a cave and a natural swimming pool with ocean water. The depth of the basin was about 2.5 meters and its walls were overgrown with purple and blue coral. The swimming pool is next to the ocean and looked like a swimming pool, infinity pools (pool visually hidden edge, approx. Perevi.) Edge of which flowed like the expanse of the Pacific Ocean. Waves beat against the edge of the pool, and every third or fourth wave broke, enveloping us by sea spray. People pay hundreds of dollars to spend the day in such a place, and we found him near the small quiet village, completely untouched and spent several hours in a completely carefree atmosphere. Table with prizes My friend Lauren lives in Point Cross, and just when we come to her in her school ended the first semester. Usually on this occasion, arrange a meeting, come all pupils and their parents. This is something like the open day, when each of the teachers accountable, what does the class during the semester, as students behaved and how they studied. Teachers assess students read aloud, noting who has studied the best, and who is worse ... We, the volunteers tried to change this tradition, but still needs to convince local. During such meetings usually are collected money and supplies for the needs of the school: Mom brings a variety of food from the yams, taro (a collective name for the tubers of tropical fruits, approx. Perevi.), And paw-paw (Vanuatu's national dish of chicken with vegetables ca. Perevi.), and dad bring kava and sell it to raise money. Lauren collecting sweets, which relatives and friends sent her out of the house, so we arranged a small celebration for the children while their parents were busy in a meeting. We have organized the baton tossed balls with water, playing with frisbees, and even staged a remarkable slippery hill. For this handy tarp, which I brought from the ship. We cut it in half, lathered it with soap, and the rest of the day spent on this hill, riding along with the kids. The holiday was a success, the children were so happy, but their mothers do not really - it's all due to the fact that at the end of slides formed a puddle of dirty water. The next day we, thirteen volunteers met for washing things four dozen children ... But it was still fun. Had a great time! Gorka spending several days in Point Cross, we went to Pangee (this town is also located on the island of Pentecost, just two hours away by motor boat), where he lives, my friend Eric. Just going out there and the ceremony with jumping on a rope. In addition, we have participated in the meeting about the end of the semester. Here we took children in basketball, frisbees, throwing baseball, a game of darts and drawing on your nails. And again, sweets were prizes in these small competitions. The next day after the end of the semester at school Pang, we started looking at jumping from the tower. We walked through the jungle, when suddenly my phone started ringing. It is not clear from what he began to ring, because in that area do not cover mobile phones. Apparently, it was God's blessing in disguise. I received a SMS from my brother Marco. He reported that the death of one of my close friends. I continued on, along with the rest to the venue of the ceremony. What else could I do? I had to keep going, I had to go. After the ceremony I got to the part of the beach where my cell phone worked, and began preparing to return home. The solution was simple - either the leaders of the Peace Corps allowed me to return home for a funeral, or I went away from them. I did not want to miss the funeral of another friend of mine, to keep all the experience in itself. Thank God, my head went to meet me and let me go home. Healing began. That's all over my story about jumping from the towers. It was the most wonderful ceremony that I have ever seen.
