Wonderful world on the ledge Bandiagara Peter and Laheen, Canada Our trip to the Dogon country (the people in southeastern Mali, ca. Perevi.) Began early in the morning. From the town of Bandiagara, we went to the village Dzhigibombo. After a brief tour of the village we started our hike to the Bandiagara ledge, and then to the valleys below. To our group of two people joined our friends and Yo Mama. Yo from France, and mother of Burkina Faso. They barely speak in English and not very good command of French. Our guide Lac sometimes helped us with translation, but for the most part, in its communication, we used sign language, which eventually was poured into a very lively conversations. These guys were pleasant and interesting fellow travelers on our journey to Dogon country. The route was laid out so that the first night we were supposed to take place in the town of Teli, second - in Benimato, third - Nombori. But you probably already guessed that I am about to say ... Man proposes Bandiagara escarpment If it turns out that the country of the Dogon did you know just now, here's a brief explanation of why this region is so interesting. Dogon live in the area of ??Bandiagara scarp, which stretches for 150 km to the east. Landscapes are incredibly beautiful. Dogon are famous for their rich culture and art, and unique dwellings and granaries. Before the Dogon lived here Thelema. They built homes and granaries on a steep ledge, in the most inaccessible places. Dogon villages built similar to the ledge, but as high as Thelema, they never crawled. Today Dogon live in villages located above or below the ledge, and grow here, along with millet and beans his famous dogonsky onions, which are here very much. Housing teleconference our hike on the ledge Bandiagara was just incredible. Confront us with the stunning views of steep slopes and huge dusty valleys, which lie far below. The first day was overcast and the air all the time was covered by haze. (You've probably already noticed, our photographs. The reason for this - Harmatan - the wind, the sky was covered with clouds of sand, which is from February to June, he brings out of the desert). Courageous Canadians, what we certainly are not able to go hiking without a sturdy shoes and special backpacks that were secured behind our shoulders. Our guide was in flip-flops, Mama - black patent leather shoes on his bare feet, and Jo - in morocco shoes. While we are cautiously down the path, we proceeded by two local women with large bundles of wood which they carried on their heads. One woman was in slippers and a second generally barefoot. UV-r! Be brave Canadian is not easy! We reached the town of Kani-Kombole approximately 10:30. Here we decided to get some rest, eat and visit the market, and then when the heat subsides, once again hit the road. It seems that this campaign will be one of the most comfortable in our practice. We will eat 3 times a day, usually we would not succeed. Heat not so strong, because the sun is not bright, and blowing a light breeze. Or maybe we just got used to? We liked the small but attractive market in the Kani-Kombole. We were surprised that tourists were not there, though the city is located at the intersection of several tourist routes. We have a tasty lunch couscous (the national Moroccan dish, approx. Ed.) Sauce, and, before heading to the Teli, went to look at the mosque and nearby houses teleconference. The villages are located near each other, it enabled us to not go in the heat. Mosque in Kani-Kombole resting at a camp in Teli, we headed to the ledge to a close look at these Dogon villages and homes of Thelema. For us it was the most important part of the campaign. We do not even think that we have the opportunity to wander through the villages of the Dogon. The villages are stunning, and it seems that homes were built in complete harmony with the landscape. I hope the photos are clearly visible. Market in the Kani Kombole During lunch, we wanted to try the beans that are grown in the Dogon region. All food, including beans, served here with tasty tomato sauce and onions dogonskogo. We really liked the beans and sauce. We agreed that in order to enjoy the food, meat in general is not required. The first time we slept on the roof. We do not knowingly carried with him into our backpacks blankets, because the morning was pretty cool. It was wonderful to lie on the roof to admire the starry sky and feel the breath of breeze. The only obstacle idyll pleasant nights were donkeys, who shouted almost until morning. All animals and birds have gone to bed: chickens and roosters, goats and sheep, even the dogs were quiet, but damn donkeys could not calm down and all night (even if quite funny) shouted tirelessly! In Teli I met countrywoman of Alberta, in Edmonton. Her name was Liza Jane, she studied for a year at the University of Bamako (the capital of Mali, ca. Perevi.). Marina, her classmate and fellow traveler, was in New York. Lisa Jay, as we had planned to go to Burkina Faso, so we're hoping that will meet her again before she returns to Canada.
