Nigeria - The first and last time (the ending part 3) Another planet when we moved to Abuja, it seemed like we were on another planet. Wide double lines, multi-storey buildings, poles with traffic signs, street names - it was like any modern city. We went to the hotel "Sheraton" and, despite the enormous cost, they took the number one day. We are tired, so that words can not describe, but we were safe, and in the next 24 hours we did not need to go anywhere. In Abuja, we had to spend a few days and during that time to obtain visas in Cameroon. We decided that while we wait for a visa, you need to grease the car. But there turned out an interesting fact. Despite the fact that in Nigeria vast oil reserves, the country has a shortage of gasoline, diesel fuel and, of course, oil. In the end, we still managed to find a man who showed us where our car will take care of. While we waited in the shop, I noticed a sign which warned about what to do during a fire. I really liked the statement, which read "run with all haste." Is only in Nigeria you can see! We're a little nervous before to get back on Nigerian roads, however, we were pleasantly surprised that the roads in eastern Nigeria is quite normal, same as the whole of Africa. True, we had to continually deal with the traffic police, which apparently went out to hunt in packs. One time I counted 20 people, all of something we screamed, threatened to confiscate our car, because he's right-hand drive, claiming that our international law do not apply in Nigeria. The horror of some! Despite all the intimidation and threats, we did not pay anyone and nothing was presented. On the way there are 5 different types of checkpoints: ordinary police tehpolitsiya, customs, criminal police and traffic police. And all of them have weapons. When ignited better to just run away We came to ICOM, a city on the border of Nigeria and Cameroon. We had to drive another couple of dozen kilometers to the border. During those 20 miles we stopped at seven checkpoints and constantly threatened. We have collected all his strength of will in a fist, one that does not provoke, and after some time left on the suspension bridge, leaving behind Nigeria and drove in Cameroon. Corruption thrives in Nigeria. It only exacerbates the difficulties caused by the difficult road conditions. Nigeria - one of those countries, wherever we would not want to return. Start material:
